Umbrae Noctis Festival – A Darkly Decadent Burlesque Festival
November 15 @ 7:00 pm - November 17 @ 11:00 pm
$30The Umbrae Noctis Festival was born out of the dark, dank winter dreary of the PNW. Knowing that there is beauty to be found in the shadows of the night, the producer of the monthly show, Burlynomicon – A Darkly Decadent Burlesque Revue, called the coven together to create a weekend long festival to celebrate all things dark and decadent and on the fringes…and thus was born
UMBRAE NOCTIS.
This Darkly Decadent Burlesque Festival will be held at The Coffin Club (421 SE Grand Ave, Portland, OR) on Friday, November 15 & Saturday, November 16 from 7pm-11pm each night, with dancing in the Coffin Club Crypt until the wee hours after the showroom gates close.
You will find gloriously ghoulish performances that will transfix your senses all weekend, all set to the feelings and sounds of darkwave, post-punk, goth, deathrock and punk. Artists from all walks of life and from all parts of the world will gather to share their beauty with you, including LEGENDARY performer PRINCESS FARHANA to end the weekend, as well as headliners SADIRA LADY LIQUID, JUDAS SAINT JAMES & AH! BALONEY that will leave you breathless.
Thursday, November 14 will hold a pre-festival event with our Legend, the likes of which will be unique and entertaining…more info to come soon.
On Sunday, November 17, behold a dark market of your most delectable nightmares from 2-8pm at The Coffin Club.
Learn from our incredible headliners PRINCESS FARHANA & SADIRA LADY LIQUID with workshops on Saturday, November 16 & Sunday, November 17, more info TBA.
Tickets to the festival are on sale now!
Would you like to apply to perform? Applications are open until July 31!
The types of performance that we are looking for are any movement style that embodies the theme of the weekend -dark and decadent, mysterious and maniacal, wondrous and worldly. Please refer to the website, https://umbraenoctisfestival.com for deeper context. Any movement art will be considered, including but not limited to Burlesque, Drag, Bellydance (fusion and Raqs Sharqi styles), Contemporary, Circus/Sideshow (you MUST have paperwork submitted with your application to be considered for sideshow acts).
We have put together a playlist of music that we hope you will find inspirational, which can be found here:
!!PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND REGARDING THE PLAYLIST!!
The songs and bands on the playlist are not the only ones that you can choose from. The playlist is meant to inspire you to explore new music or to re-visit old familiar tunes.
You may notice that there is no emo or metal on the playlist – there are productions in PDX that focus on those genres currently, and we do not wish to step on any gloriously pedicured toes.
When in doubt, keep it
goth – darkwave – punk – postpunk- deathrock
and contact us if you have any questions!
If you want to create a new act for this, but won’t have it ready in time to submit, no worries! This is supposed to be fun, not anxiety inducing, and we are so happy that you would like to create something new for us! Here are the steps of how to do that through the performer application:
-attach a video of you performing a similar movement style
-describe your new act(s) in the space provided on the app
-tell us which songs you would like to or are going to use
The acts that will NOT be considered:
Please do not submit any acts that hint at or blatantly depict zenophobia, transphobia, animal abuse, racism, bigotry, fatphobia, hatred, misogyny, etc…you get the picture. Please refrain from using any sort of Metal or Emo music, as we will not step on the finely polished toes of our Metalesque Fest sisters, nor on those of our Wasted Yuth comrades (for those outside of PDX, the former is a yearly Metal Burlesque Fest, the latter, a monthly emo dance p and performance party).
We also do not have the capabilities for aerial rigging or fire performance at this time.
