The Clinton Street Theater has always been about community. We imagine ourselves to be the “Clubhouse of the Portland Anarchist Jurisdiction”—a place to come and be with friends and family; a place where strangers are only friends you haven’t met yet.

Our mission is to support the community through the power of independent film and live events. We accomplish this mission by creating a safe and welcoming environment where people can be true to themselves while learning about the world around them.

We know how important community space is, and so we’re happy to offer private rentals for your special occasion, performance, or even just to kick back with a few friends.

For private events, we prefer to keep the number of guests to 50 or fewer unless it’s an independent film screening, a corporate event, or a special life event like a memorial service, graduation or wedding.
